“I would like to thank our principal for giving us the opportunity and allowing us time to pursue this important project that, in the past, we did not have the time to initiate. When we first started, there was a survey taken by 1000 participants, 500 men and 500 women, about their main purpose for installing window film. The poll indicated that while 98% installed film for comfort, 95% of participants indicated health protection. With this knowledge, we set our goal to fulfill these two required needs of our customers, Comfort and Health,” Mr. Kritnattaphat says.
“But as evident, of 25 years in the window film business, we needed to spend most of our early years building up the brand, establishing the market, and looking after our customers. Of course, along the way, we also needed to build a good foundation for internal infrastructure of the organization—this means looking after hundreds of lives of our employees. Because of this, we did not have the time to devote to develop the 4th-Generation solar control film until now,” says Mr. Kritnattaphat.
Mr. Kritnattaphat added that for generation 1 window films in its early days, the performance was limited to just tinting out the visible light, thus the term “window tinting” was used. As needs for controlling the heat was required, the generation 2 reflective metallized window film was created, thus the term “solar control film”. As reflective film is found to be a driving hazard to motorists, and reflective light source pollution for buildings, we witnessed the less reflective multi-layer sputtered metal and ceramic film of the 3rd generation film dominating the market. “Blue-light was discovered in the medical laboratory; it has the solar spectrum between 400-450nm (nanometer), with damaging effect on human beings varying through different wavelengths. The discovery was due to research on recent increase illnesses related this silent killer. In the past everyone thought that ultraviolet radiation was considered to be the most dangerous solar radiation. However, medical experts found that Blue-light can penetrate deeper into the eyes, damaging sensory nerves connecting to the brain, throwing off signals that leads to human chemical imbalance. The Harvard Medical School states that numerous chronic diseases such AMD (Age-related Macular Degeneration), blindness, anxiety, sleeplessness, high cholesterol and excess body fat, overweight, heart disease, diabetes, and cancer has its root cause stemming from Blue-light,” states Mr. Kritnattaphat.
“Through our research of the Blue-light facts, we also discovered some surprise findings in regards to the other members of the solar radiation, the Ultraviolet. The National Toxicology Program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services studies found that are 3 types of ultraviolet radiations: UVA-Class 1 (340 to 400nm) , UVA-Class 2 (315-340nm), UVB (280 to 315nm), and UVC (100 to 280nm). The study discovered that UVC cannot penetrate through the earth’s ozone layer, UVB consists of only 5% of all UV radiation entering the earth’s atmosphere and CAN NOT PENETRATE THROUGH GLASS! In true reality, this basically means that the film we installed for our customer did not have additional values in terms of UV protection for the customers, since the glass itself already has an inherent ability to protect customers from UVB,“ he added.
“And UVA, as indicated by the Skin Cancer Foundation, is 30 to 50 times more prevalent than UVB, and is 95% of total UV radiations entering the earth, and can penetrate through glass and human skin. Thus UVA is considered to be the most harmful of all UV rays , and human exposure of UVA radiation can destroy the collagen layer, causing photo aging, wrinkles and sunspots. Prolonged exposure can eventually lead to the destruction of DNA, damaging the body’s immune system, causing skin cancer. The recent study released by the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) states that two out of three Australians will develop skin cancer by age 70. Meanwhile, the World’s Health Organization (WHO) shows the UV Index in Thailand elevating to 12, a number classified in an Extremely High category, the highest category on the index. This alarming figure indicates an extreme health danger to the Thai people due to UV exposure, and it is also a clear indication of due increased UVA level due to the depletion of the earth’s ozone layer,” Mr. Kritnattaphat added.
“With this knowledge, we realize that there are limitations to the performance of current products that are currently in the market. While the product can effectively handle the infrared heat and UVB radiation, there are dark forces of the solar radiations such as Blue-light and UVA radiations that we still need to reckon with. And we felt that we can not rest until we have completely satisfy the needs for true health protection of our customer,” stated Mr. Kritnattaphat.
