On the 21st of April, 2018, Hotel Baraquda Pattaya MGallery by Sofitel celebrated Planet 21 day. Planet 21 is a program designed by Accorhotels which aims to provide a positive hospitality experience. The Planet 21 programme demonstrates the Group’s ambitious goals for 2020, based around four strategic priorities: work with its employees, involve its customers, innovate with its partners and work with local communities.

As we celebrated this day, we opened up our Earth Worm farm to guests in the hotel and to the public to come and visit. The aim of this project is to use the worms to process food waste in order to produce a nutrient rich soil which we can use for gardening purposes around the hotel. Food waste includes coffee grounds, eggshells, tea bags, fruits and vegetables. This is extremely beneficial for the environment in that the waste which would normally end up in a landfill is converted into compost for the garden. The worms are natural recyclers that break down the food waste put into the worm farm and produce 10 times richer soil than normal.

The General Manager, Mr. Jagan Lacsher, explained our concept to the people and our aim in striving for sustainability and innovation this year. The waste made by the worms will be used for landscaping around the hotel premises, instead of buying it from outside. He also emphasized on the need for all of us as human beings to do our bit in contributing to the welfare of the environment
